Welcome to Stagnant Online
Introduction
Stagnant - Not moving or flowing; motionless. Showing little or no sign of activity or advancement; not developing or progressing; inactive.
Well, for the time being, that pretty much sums up the current state of this site.
I like dictionary dot coms. They're in limited supply these days, which means they're not so easy to acquire. In addition, they're brandable and usually come with a certain degree of inherent traffic. This, in turn, tends to make them pretty sought after amongst the usual online startup crowd and business multitude alike.
I like this one in particular, because I don't envisage anyone emailing me to complain that the site, stagnant.com, is stagnating. In fact, some might say, I have a duty to let it remain this way. :)
Seriously though, I'll probably use this web space for some kind of code and design project. Aside from that, I'm not entirely sure which direction I'll be taking it in, so for the time being, this place-setter will have to suffice while I have a think about it. :)
Design Notes
You'll have to forgive the lackluster appearance, but I've virtually given up trying to make web pages look acceptable in all browsers. It's simply not possible. Besides, these pages are merely place-setters until something more permanent replaces them.
There is nothing more deflating than producing a text-based web page in Safari, only to fire it up in IExplorer and see its poorly-conceived, text-rendering engine completely trash it.
The bottom line is, you'll never get a standard text-based, web page to look good through Windows IExplorer until they update their text rendering engine - period. I hear they'll be using Direct Write for IE9. About time. I hope it's an improvement.
Anyway, if you're using Windows, this page is best viewed through a Safari Browser with the Quartz Engine running. On a Mac, it shouldn't matter. Under all circumstances, high pixel density (ppi) is preferable. Text-based webpages simply don't look right on any other setup.
I've thrown this webspace together from scatch pretty quickly. Over time, I'll endeavour to improve things.
